A cost beyond the entry spread

A cost review should consider what happens after an order has been filled. ASIC Moneysmart identifies overnight financing among the costs that can apply to CFD trading. The relevant schedule is the one for the product and account being researched, rather than a generic example from another instrument.

Build a small document checklist

Locate the current financing or swap explanation, the instrument specification and any published timing convention. Write down the account type, instrument and direction. Check whether the source expresses an adjustment as a rate, a cash amount or a platform-specific unit. Ask for clarification when a calculation cannot be reproduced from the available documents.

Read timing carefully

Do not assume that local midnight is the relevant boundary. Read the stated rollover time, time zone and any weekend or holiday treatment in the provider’s current materials. Those details belong beside a quoted rate. This guide does not supply a live financing quote or apply one provider’s convention to another.

Keep observations separate from forecasts

An adjustment recorded on one date is an observation about that date. It should not become a promise about future charges. Save the schedule version and the account-history reference when reviewing a past adjustment. Keep costs, market movement and currency conversion separate in the research notes.
